KATACLYSM was coined to name the contemporary art movement which has been catapulted onto the global stage from New Orleans, La. as a result the 2005 tragic devastation of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast by floods and hurricanes.

The work of these artists and writers expresses shock and outrage at the political neglect and the destructive environmental policies of corporate oil interests and the military industrial complex.

This art movement foretells the dire results of global climate change if sustainable environment is not pursued.

KATACLYSM is derived from (sources: Oxford English and Webster) Cataclysm (F cataclysme, fr. L cataclysmos, fr. Gl. Katakylsmos, to deluge, fr. Kataklyzein - to inundate, fr. Kata = klyzein - to wash.)
1. A great and general flood of water, a deluge
2. A political or social upheaval, which sweeps away the old order of things.

KATACLYSMIA -- the state of being in Kataclysm.

KATACLYSMISTS -- artists/writers who portray the philosophy and aesthetic of Kataclysm.
